If you are unrestricted for holidays and the weather looks good come and stay. We can be flexible on dates out of season but sorry it must be for three days or more. What's about now,

The weather is mixed and we have had heavy rain with lovely sunshine between. The waterfalls have been spectacular. Orchids and an abundance of other wildflowers are showing, green trees and lots of bees and insects taking advantage.

Good numbers of our summer migrating birds are here. Short eared owls interacting with Hen Harriers. Young geese, oystercatchers and ducks are following parents around learning their new world.

There are red deer in the filed behind the cottage and they have their calves with them. Lovely to watch the calves jumping about in the long grass. We are starting to see lots of young birds in our garden with a great spotted woodpecker family, siskin, chaffinch, greenfinch, sparrows and starlings in abundance..

If you manage a trip out to the Treshnish isles then the puffins will be waiting as well as guillemots, kittiwake, shags, and even the odd corncrake. the flowers are stunning as well as the view.

A trip with sealife Mull will take you to the whale grounds where currently there are a huge amount of common Dolphin and good numbers of Minke whale.

Everywhere is now open and there are some excellent places to eat. The Salen hotel is on our doorstep and the Fishnish food bar as well as places in Tobermory and Craignure. The coffee pot just across the road has some very scrummy baking in an honesty box.

We are often asked when is the best time to come. Anytime of year as the changing seasons bring their own special moments. As the Spring comes in we have the change over of our Wintering birds starting to leave and the summer visitors arriving. The whole Island has the uplifting sound of birds and lots of young around. Boat trips start around April. If wildlife isn't your thing then May, June and July is the time to see the wildflowers and butterflies. May, June, July and August are great months to get out on boat trips to see the Puffins, razorbill, kittywake and common guillemot all nesting. The boat to the Treshnish Isles runs Ulva ferry along with Mull charters for a close encounter with white tailed sea eagles. Also from Tobermory Sealife Mull for whales and lots of sea birds, porpoise and dolphin. Treshnish isles with Staffa tours.

There are also a number of land based tours for walking, wildlife and learning photography.

Of course the gorgeous scenary is here all year round in many moods.

Autumn brings gorgeous colours and many rainbows. The changing light can be spectacular. Even if a storm comes through its still gorgeous as the sea is moody matching the skies. The wildlife is changing with our wintering birds coming back. Atlantic seals are having their young and the stags are roaring. Lichens mosses and fungi are coming out in force now and through the winter months. Mid October brings the rally on the second weekend, if you are not into the rally there are many places to escape although the Island is busy for a short while.

Winter is very quiet for people but can be brilliant for wildlife. The eagles have less daylight hours to feed in and if very cold the otters spend less time in the water and more on rocks eating. less disturbance can mean more good views.

If you are new to Mull we are just next door to you so we can suggest places to visit and things to do.
